As the Commission on Audit (COA) celebrates its remarkable 125 years of service, one particular highlight of its anniversary festivities is the COA Nationwide Choral Competition. Among the esteemed participants is the Luzon Group Choral, proudly represented by the Himig Luzon Koro, under the baton of the esteemed conductor Joel S. Alinsunurin and the management of Supervising Auditor Helenito DC. Luahalhati, Jr., of National Government Audit Sector Clusters 1 to 4.
Himig Luzon Koro is an ensemble of 20 talented individuals from COA Regional Office Nos. IV-A and IV-B. Their journey towards musical excellence is marked by dedication, passion, and a shared sense of purpose.
Under the guidance of Maestro Joel S. Alinsunurin, the choir has undergone rigorous auditions and daily rehearsals, sacrificing time and effort to hone their craft. Despite the demands of their roles within the COA and their familial responsibilities, each member wholeheartedly dedicates themselves to the pursuit of musical excellence.
At the heart of Himig Luzon Koro’s performance lies the stirring anthem “Piliin Mo ang Pilipinas.” Originally sung by Angeline Quinto and composed by Mr. Robert Labayen, this song embodies the essence of Filipino pride and love for the homeland. Its new musical arrangement commissioned specifically for COA’s 125th Anniversary as the compulsory piece underscores the significance of this milestone event.
In addition to the compulsory piece, Himig Luzon Koro brings forth the evocative composition “Isang Dugo, Isang Lahi, Isang Musika” by Dodjie Simon, arranged by Lester Delgado. This chosen piece celebrates the diversity and unity of the Filipino people, weaving together themes of heritage, identity, and shared aspirations. Accompanying the choir in this performance is Director Josue Greg M. Zuniega of the Philippine High School for the Arts, as their pianist. His skillful playing adds depth and resonance to the musical rendition.
“Isang Dugo, Isang Lahi, Isang Musika” resonates with its imagery of a unified nation, where the collective voice of the Filipino people sings in harmony. Its poignant lyrics and stirring melody evoke a sense of pride in one’s roots and a commitment to building a future founded on peace and understanding.
Moreover, the choreography accompanying their performance was crafted by Mr. Gebbvelle Ray T. Selga whose artistic vision added a visual dimension to the choir’s musical prowess.
Their stellar performance on May 2, 2024, at the COA Cultural and Sports Complex captivates the audience and judges alike which led Himig Luzon Koro to receive the title of second runner-up.
As COA commemorates its 125th Anniversary, Himig Luzon Koro stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of excellence, integrity, and service. Through their dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to musical excellence, they honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire future generations to uphold the values of the Commission on Audit.
