The passage of Proclamation No. 224 s. 1988, entitled “Declaring the First Week of March of Every Year as Women’s Week and March 8, 1988, and Every Year Thereafter as Women’s Rights and International Peace Day,” and Proclamation No. 227 s. 1988, “Providing for the observance of the Month of March as ‘Women’s Role in History Month” signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino on March 1, 1988 and March 17, 1988, respectively, served as the legal bases for the celebration of National Women’s Month. These laws showed our solidarity with the United Nations in recognizing women’s achievements and contribution in the 20th century.

For this year’s National Women’s Month, the Commission on Audit (COA) Regional Office No. (RO) IV-A held a month-long observance with the theme: “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patunayan!”. Several activities were lined up under the guidance of the Regional Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point head, Regional Director (RD) Chona P. Labrague.

The formal Opening Ceremony was held on March 4, 2024 with an inspirational message from RD Labrague. An original song entitled “Juana, yaman ka ng bayan” composed by Jessamine J. Mataya from the Audit and Government Accountancy Division (AGAD) was deduted in the said program. In was performed by JM and the Bees, composed of selected members of the COA RO IV-A family.

The same day, a Zumba Dance Session organized by the Committee on Audit and Gender Issues Analysis headed by Ms. Heidy M. Barcimo, Supervising Auditor (SA) for SUCS and Other Stand-Alone Agencies (SAAs) was also held.

On March 11, 2024, a film showing of the movie “Little Women” was held at the COA RO IV-A Training Room. It was participated in by all officials and personnel assigned in the Regional Office, and via online by the Provincial Satelite Auditing Offices (PSAO) under RO IV-A.

On March 18, 2024, the Committees on Personnel Welfare and Sports and Physical Fitness organized fun and games that were participated in by various personnel from different Divisions of the Regional Office. The fun games were also played simultaneously by PSAO staff at their respective offices. The following were the fun games played:

  1. Name it in a minute
  2. Straw in the hair
  3. Would you rather?
  4. Guess what’s in the bag
  5. Two truths and a lie with prizes at stake for the winners

On March 25, 2024, an online training on Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines was conducted. It was organized by the Committee on on Training and Advocacy headed by SA Marcelina Leticia B. Maquimot of Corporate Government Audit Sector (CGAS)-Clusters 1, 2 and 4. There were 50 participants from various audit groups.

The Closing Ceremony for the National Women’s Month Celebration was held on March 26, 2024 at the COA RO IV-A Training Room, and joined in via Zoom by PSAO officials and employees under RO IV-A. Ms. Melanie P. Ruidera, Assistant Regional Director of RO IV-A delivered an encouraging closing message and she acknowledged the efforts of everyone in making the month-long celebration a success.
